Introduction
This series of posts regarding the qualities of monsters and gods will be combined into a single document and be made available on DriveThruRPG. If you’re looking for definitive answers to your RPG (or personal) questions, this is not your solution. This is an exploration of ideas, not an orderly path of absolutes.
Names
In general, gods don’t have different “type” names. That is to say, they are either a god, or they aren’t. There are levels of gods: major gods, minor gods, and demigods. There is no true catch-all name for the opposite of a god. “Monsters” are different things, and are broken into types or categories, or perhaps species. They can be devils, demons, horrors, natural events, creatures, etc.
Major Characteristic
Monsters and gods are opposites. Gods make, monsters unmake. Gods create, monsters destroy. Gods build up, monsters tear down. If gods have one quality, monsters have the opposite. Black vs. white, day vs. night, give life vs. bring death.
